Fluorite & Galena -
Blackdene Mine, Weardale, County Durham, England
33 x 30 x 25mm small miniature ('toenail') sized specimen
galena crystals to 15mm across
Classic Location
Lustrous , quite glassy mid-purple to lavender coloured cubed Fluorite, some displaying interpenetrant twinning accompanied by gunmetal grey, complex Galena crystals, quite typical for this classic Weardale lead mine.
An excellent example.
As with all the Fluorites from here, it fluoresces a bright bluish violet very strongly under Longwave Ultraviolet. It also will look slightly different under incandescent light and LED and natural daylight.
Collected in 1974.
