Fluorite - Greenlaws Mine, Weardale, England
'Lost Count Pocket'
Great Limestone Flats,
Greenlaws Mine, Daddry Shield, Weardale
County Durham, England
58 x 50 x 30mm Miniature - small cabinet 112gms
Purple to a blush-pinkish lilac coloured cubed fluorite crystals with obvious recrystalisations. The recrystalised 'funkies' (a term given by the mine explorers to the recrystalised fluorites because of their unusual, sometimes strange and funky shapes) are flattened cubes over a contrasting chocolate coloured carpet of Siderite that is further peppered with smaller fluorite crystals.
The recrystalised fluorite does tend to exhibit opaque pastel tones and is often less fluorescent than primary crystal growth.
The main crystal has subtle pink-lilac colour zoning to the edges and an unusual further zone visable. There are also cute stacked crystals to one side.
Lots to look at and appreciate on this specimen.
There are more fluorite crystals on the underside of the specimen.
Fluorescent violet in LWUV, with some daylight fluorescence intensifying the purple tones.
Crystals up to 20 x 18mm on edge.
NOTE: Fluorite from the mine is notoriously difficult to capture the colour, as it changes continuously depending on the lighting. NONE of the photos or video colour is altered in any way!
